How to build a legend:

You can download the Climate Central logo and color bars to build a legend:

Ocean CSI color bars & logo.zip

Legends typically include:

• “Climate Shift Index: Ocean” label
• Date data is valid for
• Station logo
• Climate Central logo
• Color swatches
• Index numbers, either on or below the color swatches

Meteorologists also commonly build a text box that explains the analyzed values for that day, e.g., “100 times more likely as a result of climate change.”

How to communicate about the Ocean CSI

The Ocean CSI quantifies how much more or less likely the observed, daily sea surface temperature (SST) is in the current climate compared to a world without carbon pollution.

We CAN use the Ocean CSI to:

• Show climate change’s influence on the ocean’s daily temperatures
• Help connect climate change-driven ocean warming to consequences such as tropical cyclone (hurricane) intensities and rapid intensification
